Meet me on the roof in 10.

    -A.F.J.

Arthur blinked. ‘On the roof? Why the hell would he be there in the first place?’

He cursed Alfred’s silly little notes. This was not the first time he had received one and the result has always ended with the both of them getting into trouble with the principal. Sighing and wondering what he will be getting himself into, Arthur checked his watch then at his peers around him. Everyone, including his teacher, seemed preoccupied at the moment…

He had to make a quick exit, one that will not gain any attention to himself whatsoever. Stuffing the note into his pocket, Arthur casually walked out the class room and into the hallway. He walked at a normal pace for about a minute, even whistled a little tune to himself, before sprinting down the hall.

‘Alfred you git, just wait until I get my hands on you!’

Alfred stood on the roof as the wind whipped into his face. The sun blazed down, and it even seemed like nature was reprimanding him for trying this. It was stupid, after all. But he’d gone long enough. It was time for him to confess, and by the helmet of Captain America, he was going to do it.

A small creaking distracted him from his thoughts. Slowly, he lifted his legs off of the balcony and turned around?

“Artie? Is that you?” Maybe it was just the wind.

Arthur rolled his eyes. “Who else would it be?” He took his time walking to Alfred, his heart racing for running up the stairs so fast. He stopped suddenly, noticing something is off with Alfred. He seemed tense and uncomfortable. Arthur frowned, his anger from earlier vanished and replaced with concern. Alfred is visibly shaking, it could be because of the wind but he’s wearing his beloved jacket so he couldn’t be that cold…

He slowly stepped forward, a little closer to him. “Alfred?”

He jumps, startled by the sudden voice. Lo and behold stands Arthur, looking as fresh-cut and neat as ever. Although his hair is slightly messy, either from the wind or from a forgotten hairbrush perhaps.

“Ah! Artie. There you are,” Alfred begins. He pauses for a brief moment. “Didja get my note?”

Arthur rolled his eyes again. He goes into his pocket to retrieve the now wrinkled note. “Obviously. Honestly, you pick the worse timing! We could get detention for this!” Arthur sighed, stuffing the note back into his pocket. His green eyes locking with Alfred’s blue ones. “Now what ever is the matter?”

The American grins and flashes him a thumbs up. He could feel the blood rushing to his cheeks already. “Yeah, well. No worries. We won’t get caught.”

Alfred takes a deep breath and steps forward to place his hands on Arthur’s shoulders. “I just need to tell you something. Something important.”

Arthur tried not to flinch at the warm touch. He closes his eyes for a moment, to savor Alfred’s touch before opening them again to stare at his American idiot, his eyes searching Alfred’s for answers. Licking his already dried lips he asked, “W-what’s…”

Damn he stuttered. “What’s so important that you had to require me to leave class?”

Alfred stared down into those green eyes, but only for a moment. Quickly, he looked away, but eventually his gaze made its way back to Arthur. As he knew it would, it always did. No matter who would walk past, it was always him. And he supposed, that was why he was here today.

“How do you feel about me?”

Arthur flushed. His heart pounding away against his chest, it ached him. “I-I…” He hated how shaky and breathy his voice sounded, it scared him how Alfred can effect him so much, like this. He opened his mouth a few times, trying to answer but found that he couldn’t not with Alfred standing so close.

Fuck. Fuck. Alfred mentally slapped himself. He had freaked him out, hadn’t he? Too freaked out to answer. Dammit. “Look, if you don’t want to answer, I understand. But I still have something to tell you.”

Arthur took a deep breath, willing himself to relax. He must look pathetic but he nodded once for Alfred to continue.
